The “ostad” of Persian vocal art, from Mashhad. Shajarian shaped classical singing for five decades, worked with masters such as Parviz Meshkatian and Mohammad-Reza Lotfi and is for many Iranians the voice of home. His “Rabbana” has accompanied the month of fasting for generations.
