You play at the bottom, your partner at the top, the computer opponents left and right. The team that first takes 7 tricks wins the hand; the first to 7 points wins the game.

How to play Hokm

  1. Four players in two teams; partners sit opposite each other. There are 52 cards; ace is high, 2 is low. Play goes counter-clockwise.
  2. The hakem first gets 5 cards and then names the trump suit, the hokm. Then everyone gets the rest of their cards, 13 each.
  3. The hakem leads the first card. Everyone must follow the suit led; whoever cannot may trump or discard any card.
  4. The trick goes to the highest trump, otherwise to the highest card of the suit led. The winner of the trick leads next.
  5. The team that first takes 7 tricks wins the hand and a point. A 7–0 is a “kot”: 2 points, or 3 if the hakem’s team gets nothing.
  6. If the hakem’s team wins, he stays hakem; otherwise the next player becomes hakem. The first team to 7 points wins the game.
