Full Ride Battle Ground — Episode 1 (Part 5 of 5)

As the class of 2013 approaches it’s final spring season before senior year, battle lines are being drawn all over the country with collegiate coaches striving to commit top talent.

This week, Full Ride keys on the recruiting fight for three top prospects poised to make a major splash in 2013.

In the Midwest, Michigan and Notre Dame are heavily pursuing Joliet Catholic running back Ty Isaac, who accounted for more than 50 touchdowns as a junior. Interest is also stemming from Auburn’s Gene Chizik who seems poised to steal Isaac from the heartland and bring him down south.

Max Browne, the pistol from the Pacific Northwest, is 2013’s top passer and facing a crucial choice between USC and Oklahoma. Schools across America are trying to secure the Sammamish, Washington product, but it appears that Lane Kiffin and Bob Stoops have distinguished their programs above all others.

Lastly, Bishop Luers linebacker Jaylon Smith has Hoosier State rivals Purdue and Notre Dame bidding for his services on the defensive side of the ball. But, Smith’s older brother Rod plays for Ohio State and the Buckeyes’ Urban Meyer is attempting to sign Jaylon as well.

Which school is likely to land Isaac, Browne and Smith? Stay tracked with Full Ride for the answer.

Top 2013 Recruits – Full Ride Rankings – Episode 1 (2 of 5)

It’s not too early to begin determining the top athletes that will compose the 2013 recruiting class. Fox Sports National Recruiting Analyst Brendan Huffman issues an inside look at the top five players in the country while shedding light on which school each recruit is considering.

GOON’s Seann William Scott on 5 NHL Gordie Howe Hat Trick Players

With his movie ‘Goon’ on currently on VOD & set to hit theaters soon, Hollywood actor-comedian Seann William Scott joins Bleacher Report to discuss the film and breakdown some of the NHL’s toughest guys who can also put the puck in the net, making them top candidates for the ‘Gordie Howe Hat Trick’ on a nightly basis.

The ‘Gordie Howe Hat Trick’ is an homage to the legend, who on several occasions, recorded a goal, assist and engaged in a fight in the same game.

Headlining the spotlight piece is Flames Captain, Jarome Iginla — a leader for Calgary in all facets of the game. Iginla recently joined the NHL’s 500-goal club, but scoring isn’t the only dimension to his game. He’s recorded his fair share of Gordie Howe Hat Tricks during a 15-year career, all with the Flames.

Scott offers up Zdeno Chara as another potential threat for the rare ‘Gordie Howe Hat Trick’ feat. At 6’9″, Chara is a monstrous force on the ice, with a rocket shot and nasty streak when needed.

Chara’s teammate Milan Lucic, Mike Richards of the Los Angeles Kings and the Maple Leafs Dion Phaneuf are also featured in the show.

Janet Guthrie: Paving the Way – Why We Watch – Episode 2

Long before Danica Patrick thought about getting behind the wheel of a race car – five years before she was even born, in fact – another woman was burning up the track & ruffling more than a few feathers on her way to making racing history. In 1977, Janet Guthrie became the first female to compete in the Daytona 500 and later that year accomplished the same feat at the Indianapolis 500. Though Guthrie only raced professionally for a few years, her impact on the sport was enormous, and resonates even today. Janet was a trailblazer even before she set foot on a racetrack, earning a degree in Physics, her pilot’s license, and a promising career in Aviation. She even applied for the first Scientist-Astronaut Program in the United States. In other words, Janet had no problem asserting herself in “a man’s world”. However, when she decided to enter the world of Indy & NASCAR racing, Guthrie was met with scorn from both members of the racing community and the media who felt that the race track was no place for a woman. 2012 marks the 35th Anniversary of her historic races, and Janet recently sat down with Bleacher Report to reflect on her career, her historic achievements, how she felt about breaking down barriers and battling for the respect of the racing community.

The Clipper Darrell Saga Teaser – Why We Watch

Bleacher Report’s Why We Watch documentary series next spotlights one of the NBA’s most loyal and charismatic fans, Darrell Bailey, better known as “Clipper Darrell”. But recent events have greatly strained the relationship between Clipper Darrell and his beloved Los Angeles Clippers.

For the better part of two decades, the Clippers’ biggest fan supported the listless Los Angeles franchise from his ninth row perch, donned in his iconic blue-and-red colored suit and team cap. Clipper Darrell became a staple at the Staples Center – the most visible and enthusiastic fan the Clippers have ever
known.

His passion and ardent fervor for the Clippers attracted other fans, media and even players to Darrell – his infectiously positive personality serving as a magnetic force for the likes of current team members Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.

Yet, as of a few days ago, the Clippers Franchise asked Clipper Darrell to remove the franchise’s name from his, demanding that he be known simply as, “Darrell” from now on. He hasn’t been known by that singular name since the year before the team last made the playoffs in the mid-90s.

While shooting the piece, Why We Watch was positioned on the front-lines of this emerging battle between organization and individual, documenting events as they transpired in real time.
